Tying His Own Shoes!

Alex has been interested in wearing tie shoes for the past few months, but has only shown interest in learning how to tie them as we are trying to get ready for school, which for obvious reasons, doesn't work.  I had told him that if he wanted to learn, it would be good to practice when we didn't need to actually be somewhere.  On Thursday afternoon, he decided he wanted to practice, so we sat down and I showed him how to tie a couple of times and then he took off and just started tying after a few tries.  He tied his shoes multiple times, making sure that he knew how to double knot as well.  After that, he requested that I make a video of him tying his shoes, so that he could teach his buddy who does not know how to tie his shoes.  I thought it was sweet of him to think of how he could teach someone else.  He then proceeded to run up and down the back yard exclaiming that he could tie his own shoes!  Quite a proud moment.  Above is a video which Google put together.  It is a compilation of stills and video from that night.

Thanks Grandpa Al and Grandma Cindy for the vintage K-Line train set.  We had fun setting it all up and learning about electricity too!  Love, Alex

Swimming!

Swimming summer 2012 0004 from David Chng on Vimeo.

Alex has been making alot of progress swimming this summer.  He has taken lessons at Campo (the high school) for the past four weeks and will be moving up to the next level for next week and the week after.  Last year he wouldn't get his face wet without goggles and this year, doing "bobs" is one of his favorite things.  I'm looking forward to seeing what happens the next two weeks.  Note:  The water is 3 feet 6 inches deep and there isn't a step for him to stand on until right next to the wall.

Big Boy Bike!!

This morning we took Alex to the school playground for a little surprise....a big boy bike!  It has been hiding for a few months due to a glut of presents from Christmas and his birthday, but today seemed like a good day to get it out of hiding.  The first video I took was at 10:01 and this video was taken at 10:13....so within 12 minutes, this is what happened!  Thanks to all of the practice on his Strider bike, he was able to transition to a big boy bike with pedals without ever going through the training wheel stage.  He was quite a happy camper!!  He has already taken another trip to the park to practice his new found skills!

Determined!

If you can't crawl or walk, just roll and scoot! She is a determined little girl and was quite happy with herself!

Dino-Mite!

A video of our dancing kiddos.  Alex loves "Dynamite"....I think because he thinks the word is dino-mite, ha!  Check out those dance moves though, from both of them!

Alex's Skate Ramp

Alex self made skate ramp from David Chng on Vimeo.

This is what Alex did to occupy himself the other morning.  Our "extra" living room is filled with boxes, some empty and some full.  He took some of the empties to make himself a skate ramp.

T-Ball in the Backyard

Tee ball in backyard from David Chng on Vimeo.

Video of Alex and David playing t-ball in the backyard last night.  The boy is serious about his game.  You would never know that it is June, with this unseasonably cold weather.  Looks like after this weekend, summer should actually arrive.

My Favorite Things

My Favorite Things from David Chng on Vimeo.

Alex had plenty of energy on Christmas Day and was singing up a storm in the evening.  He was even incorporating some ballet style dance moves into his performances, inspired by the Nutcracker on Thursday evening, I'm sure.  This is a clip of My Favorite Things.
