More Soccer

Alex really enjoyed soccer again this year.  He really gets out there and runs down that ball!  At the end of year party last weekend, Coach Bill called him the "smartest" player on the field and commended his motivation and his teamwork and ability and willingness to make good passes to his teammates.  Good job, Buddy!

Mudroom

As of last weekend, the mudroom is finished!  David did a great job of making the bench from some of the old beams in the garage and put up a nice coat rack for the jackets.  We got a mirror from someone who was remodeling in the neighborhood and voila...a mudroom!

Harry Potter and the Ladybug Girl

Harry Potter and Ladybug Girl ready to go to school.

Jules at her Halloween Parade.  It started to rain right before her parade, so they did it in the classroom.

 Jumping around during the parade.

No feet on the ground!

Out trick or treating.

Halloween was fun!  Alex was Harry Potter, as he has been reading the Harry Potter books and really thinks Harry Potter is pretty cool.  Jules was a Ladybug, loosely based on the Ladybug Girl books.  Both of them had parades at school.  Alex's parade managed to happen right before the rain came and Jules' parade was moved indoors due to the rain.  The rain subsided by evening and we all went out around the neighborhood trick or treating.  There is a very flat street, just down the hill from our house which is very popular for trick or treating, so we went to that street and then went around to some of our direct neighbors.  The kids were happy to get out and walk around in the dark and collect their candy.

Carving

The carving

The end products.

Pumpkin Patch

I took the kids to the pumpkin patch at Orchard Nursery in Lafayette one weekend when David was out of town.  We made a day of it, with lunch at Chipotle and then an afternoon at the pumpkin patch with all kinds of fun.  As you can see, the face painter for a pro.  She did an awesome job.

Los Perales Fun Run

Alex was a star jump roper at the LP Fun Run during Mindful Choices week.

More Soccer

Parents vs. Kids Soccer

About midway through the soccer season, the coaches scheduled a parent vs. kids game.  It was intended to just be a one time game, but they seemed to get so much out of it and performed so much better the next day at their regular game, that we decided to do it a few more times.  I only captured photos of one of the games, as I played in the other two.  It was fun to play and to watch how the kids played against the parents.  Good practice for them, for sure.

The Weaver

Last month Alex kept asking me to teach him how to weave.  I love how he just assumes that I actually know how to weave.  Ha!  I didn't, so I had to do some research.  He had a day off from school when Julia didn't, so I got everything ready to set him up on a weaving project.  There was a cool tutorial on a blog online which showed how to use old t-shirts and a hula hoop to weave.  I dug up some t-shirts which needed to be retired and bought a couple more at a local thrift store.  He worked on it for about three hours that day and made a lot of progress.  We still haven't tied it off, as he needs a few more shirts to cut up, but it will be a pretty cool little rug when he is finished.
