A Parent's Dream

Alex pulled out his Reading Treasure box to read to his friends

Reading and coloring in the library

Julia loved that Charlotte wanted to read to her.

Little Alex loved the storytime too!

Alex and Charlotte reading together

We had a party last night for the local USC crew and while the adults enjoyed some beverages and the USC/Notre Dame game, the kiddos enjoyed running around the yard, playing music in the playroom, building all kinds of Lego creations, doing lots of beadwork and I can happily report that at one point toward the end of the evening, most of the kiddos ended up in the library to color, put puzzles together and read to one another.  Talk about a parent's dream.  So cool to see them all enjoying each other's company!  Alex proudly took out his Reading Treasure box with all of his books which he makes at school and started reading to his friends.  I'm sure his teacher would be overjoyed that the Treasure Box is indeed regarded as a "treasure", as they had hoped would be the case!  Score one for the new library!

A Favorite

Recently, Julia has loved playing with the Magnetic Color Maze which was handed down to us by the Chia Family.  She loves to concentrate and work on her fine motor skills to get all of the little balls to their proper color "home".

The New Library!

The way the dining portion of the room looked when we bought the house.  The new library is from the end of the first window on the left.  We added another window where the wall hanging is above.

What the library looks like as of Saturday when we put in the shelving, and library table and chairs.

Over the weekend, we got the remainder of the furnishings for the library!  Thanks for the awesome birthday present, David.  I have always loved libraries and wanted to have one in our house, so when the opportunity arose, I was so happy.  It is a light, bright room which really makes you just want to sit in it and read.  As you can see, the kiddos love it too!  Now we just need to affix the shelves to the wall and then we are ready to load in the books and other treasures.  We will definitely get some use out of this room!

Apple Galette

We used some of those Chileno Valley Ranch apples to make a galette last night.  Yum!

Apple Picking at Chileno Valley Ranch

On Sunday we visited Chileno Valley Ranch, where we picked a bunch of different varieties of apples.  We hadn't been there for three years, so we were surprised at how popular their ranch has become.  Last time we were there it was very low key and there were very few people there besides our family, but this time it was quite busy and they had added some attractions around the farm.  Their apples are unique varieties and are really tasty.  Definitely a pretty place to visit in the Fall!

Pumpkins at McCelland Dairy Farm

On Sunday, we drove up to Sonoma County and visited McClelland Dairy Farm on the way back home.  They had pumpkins on the vine, so Alex and Julia enjoyed checking out all of the choices and picking a special one each.  They also had a viewing area for the dairy cows, who were being milked at the time, which the kiddos enjoyed.  Add in a hay maze and a giant sandbox filled with wheat kernels and you have two happy kiddos.  To top it off, we had some hot chocolate and a pumpkin milkshake as a treat.

Playdate

Jules had fun with her two friends Mike and Jake last week when they came over for a playdate.  Everyone was especially interested in trains, balls, Duplo Legos and competing to see how many times one could visit the potty.  Three two year olds keep one hopping!
