The Snack Garden

Alex and Julia love those snap peas direct from the garden.  They love the hunt of looking for some that are ready to be picked.  The other day when I was making dinner, I looked out and they were laughing and chatting in the garden, eating peas.

Monkeys on the Bunk Beds!

There were bunk beds in one of the bedrooms at the cabin and Alex and Julia both loved them, as you can see!

Reading Together

Alex and Julia were in Alex's room while I was working in the kitchen this afternoon.  When I went to check in on them, this is what I found.  Both squished into his little chair in the reading nook, looking at a Johnny Tractor book together.  Sweet!

Hunting for the Mole

Let's see if the mole will come out while we are standing here.  Let's pick some grass for it.

Julia proudly wearing her boots which are still big, but finally are at least manageable.  Note huge guacamole stain on dress.  The snack was yummy!

Be very quiet, we are hunting moles.

Again, let's try to be quiet and see if the mole will come out.

Being quiet didn't work....let's see if we can just find the mole under here.

Dear Mole:   I hope that you are far under the step and are not silly enough to come out when these two are here.  It may not be pretty for you.

After a nice guacamole and chip snack this afternoon, Alex and Julia decided to go outside to try to track down the mole, whom we had been watching during our snacktime.  He lives under the step by the back deck and frequently scurries out to get food/supplies.  On more than one occasion someone has tried to block his access by putting rocks in front of the gap, but apparently, Mr. Mole has managed to get around those obstacles.  Alex hatched a plan to be "very, very quiet" and go out to see if the mole would come out while we were out there.  If any of you have been around Alex much, you know that being "very, very quiet" is quite a feat!  He went outside and sure enough, little sister was not far behind, wanting to get in on the mole hunting.  She sported her princess dress and her new ladybug boots.  They were not terribly quiet, but did try to coax the mole out with grass (we are giving grass to see if he will eat that), as well as some sticks, in case he wanted to build something.  He did not bite and stayed under the steps.  Smart mole!  They did, however, have fun anyway, passing the time until the sun was going down.  And Mr. Mole has lived to see another day.

Reading Together

So sweet!  Reading the latest issue of  Minnesota Conservation Volunteer magazine.  In case you are interested, it is a fabulous magazine, put out by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.  Lots of great articles about wildlife and nature in each issue.  They have alot of resources on their website as well, at:

Let's Go For a Ride!

Alex taking Julia for a ride on the train, or airplane or whatever mode of transportation the sofa happened to be that day.

A Whole New World

This tent is cool!  Thanks Uncle Ming and Auntie Fiona!  My brother and I are having fun with it.

The texture on the floor tiles is very interesting.

Big brother showing how the gears work.

Julia trying her hand at it.

 Hi Momma!

 Watch and learn

 Cooperation!

There is a whole new world out there, when you can crawl.  So many things to explore.  So many chances for a big brother to show you things or share new toys.  Alex does a good job of sharing with Julia (most of the time) and he is helpful in making sure that she doesn't find anything that she shouldn't be playing with.
